ADEKA originally known as Tokyo Denka Kogyosho, was established in 1915 in Japan. It was founded with the aim of producing electrolytically-produced caustic soda domestically, which was previously imported. In 1917, the company transformed into a joint-stock company and rebranded as Asahi Denka Co., Ltd. They expanded their operations into the chemical industry, specifically producing hydrogenated oils using hydrogen. This marked the beginning of ADEKA’s business in the chemical industry, with soda and oils and fats being its main focus.

Over time, ADEKA diversified its business into the fields of “chemicals”, “foods” and “Life Sciences”. In the chemical field, they manufacture various products including additives for organic and inorganic products, plastics, and high-functional chemicals for semiconductors and digital home appliances. These products are used in industries such as electronics, automobiles, civil engineering, construction, electrical machinery, and paper manufacturing. In the food field, ADEKA utilizes its expertise in fat and oil processing and emulsification technologies to develop processed oils and fats like margarine and shortening, as well as processed food products like whipping cream.

Currently, ADEKA operates manufacturing plants in multiple locations in Japan and has research and development centers in different areas. They are focused on strengthening their research and development capabilities and expanding their sales capabilities by collaborating with affiliate companies. Additionally, ADEKA is expanding its business in overseas markets, reinforcing existing overseas plants and entering regions with anticipated growth in demand.
