Hindered amines show excellent UV protection by scavenging free radicals generated by photo degradation. When to use HALS or other light stabilizers depends on the processing requirements and demands of the end user. In some cases, combinations of light stabilizers have shown superior performance.
In general terms, stabilizers containing sterically hinderd amines, HALS are very efficient at scavenging free radicals and thus prevent these species from reacting and causing degradation of polymer chains.
ADK STAB LA-52SC is a highly effective N-methylated HALS (hindered amine light stabilizer). In PP this light stabiliser shows a high level of bloom and fogging resistance. ADK STAB LA-52SC is especially recommended for filled and pigmented polymer formulations.
ADK STAB LA-63P is an oligomeric, high molecular weight HALS (hindered amine light stabiliser) capable of protecting a variety of polymers. ADK STAB LA-63P is N-methylated and demonstrates excellent performance in many applications and especially when used in sealants and thin films.
ADK STAB LA-704Si is a light stabilizer system based on low molecular weight methylated HALS. It is available in a 50% active form on a synthetic silica carrier. ADK STAB LA-704Si is suitable for polyolefin resins such as PP and PE and can also be used in styrenic resins, PA, PMMA and PVA. It combines excellent weatherability with lower fogging and mold staining during processing and provides superior resistance against discoloration from NOx gas exposure.
