Light stabilizers are a group of additives that have been developed to minimise or prevent the damage to plastics caused by exposure to the environmental parameters of light, heat and air.

ADEKA Polymer Additives Europe offers a complete range of light stabilizers:

• Benzophenones
• Benzotriazoles
• Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS)

These light stabilizers provide protection from UV radiation by interfering with the physical and chemical processes of light-induced degradation according to different mechanisms. 

Hindered amines show excellent UV protection by scavenging free radicals generated by photo degradation. When to use HALS or other light stabilizers depends on the processing requirements and demands of the end user. In some cases, combinations of light stabilizers have shown superior performance.

In general terms, stabilizers containing sterically hinderd amines, HALS are very efficient at scavenging free radicals and thus prevent these species from reacting and causing degradation of polymer chains.

ADK STAB LA-52SC is a highly effective N-methylated HALS (hindered amine light stabilizer). In PP this light stabiliser shows a high level of bloom and fogging resistance.
ADK STAB LA-63P is an oligomeric, high molecular weight HALS (hindered amine light stabiliser) capable of protecting a variety of polymers.
ADK STAB LA-402AF is a new very high performance light stabiliser based on a low migrating HALS in a synergistic blend. Particularly suitable for filled and pigmented polyolefins
ADK STAB LA-704Si is a light stabilizer system based on low molecular weight methylated HALS. It is available in a 50% active form on a synthetic silica carrier.
ADK STAB LA-502 is a propriety light stabiliser taking advantage of advanced alkylated HALS technology to povide state-of-the-art protection in filled and pigmented formulations for interior automotive application.
ADK STAB LA-502XP is a synergistic light stabilizer concentrate (50% in polyolefin) based on a methylated HALS, low interaction, particulalry suitable for automotive interior applications.
ORGATER HALS 62 is a light stabilizer based on an oligomeric polymer. 
ORGATER HALS 77 is a hindered amine light stabiliser (HALS) suitable for most polymers.
ORGATER HALS 94 is an oligomeric, sterically hindered amine light stabiliser particularly useful for the protection of polymers used in automotive applications.

ADK STAB LA-81 is a high performing third generation HALS (hindered amine light stabilizer) that can stabilize polymers against photo-degradation even in strong acidic environment.

ORGATER HALS 92 is a hindered amine light stablizer for use in polymers, coatings and adhesives.

The benzophenone and benzotriazole based products are termed UV Absorbers and stabilize by 1.) preferential absorbtion of UV light and 2.) dissipating this harmful energy in a safe manner via stabilized excited states. By this mode of action these sophisticated molecules protect plastic products during their useful lifetime.

ADK STAB LA-31 is a high molecular weight UV absorber belonging to the hydroxy-phenyl benzotriazole family. It protects polymers from UV radiation and extends their exterior lifetime.

ADK STAB LA-46 provides excellent weatherability for polymers. This product also shows low volatility due to its high thermal stability and good solubility to polymers.
